Happy 4th of July!

Teen American fashion is diverse and constantly evolving, reflecting the individuality and creativity of young people in the United States. While fashion trends can vary greatly depending on personal style, region, and subculture, there are certain overarching themes and elements that are often associated with teen fashion in America.

Casual and comfortable: Teen fashion in America often prioritizes comfort and practicality. Casual attire, such as jeans, T-Shirts, and sneakers, is a common everyday choice. Comfortable and versatile clothing options like leggings, hoodies and athleisure wear have gained popularity among teenagers in recent years.

Influence of Pop Culture: American teens are heavily influenced by pop culture, including music, movies, and social media. Trends and styles popularized by celebrities, influencers, and popular TV shows often shape the fashion choices of young people. This can range from adopting the streetwear styles of hip-hop artists to emulating the fashion choices of actors and actresses.

Individually and Self-Expression: Teen fashion in America embraces individuality and self-expression. Many teenagers use clothing as means to express their personal style, interests, and identities. They may mix and match different styles, incorporate vintage or thrifted pieces, or experiment with bold colors, patterns, and accessories.

Streetwear and Urban influence: Streetwear, characterized by its urban and casual aesthetic, has a significant impact on teen fashion. Brands such as Supreme, Off-White, and Adisias are popular among American teens. Streetwear often features oversized clothing, graphic T-shirts, hoodies, sneakers, and accessories like backpacks, caps, and statement jewelry.

Influences from Subcultures: Teen fashion in America is influenced by various subcultures and alternative styles. For example, elements of punk, goth, skater, and emo styles can be observed in fishnet stockings, studded accessories, and distinctive hairstyles.

Active and Sports Fashion: Many American teens are actively engaged in sports and physical activities. This has contributed to the popularity of sportswear and athleisure fashion. Brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma offer a wide range of athletic clothing, including leggings, sports bras, sneakers, and track suits that are both functional and fashionable.

Accessorizing: Accessories play an important role in teen fashion. American teenagers often incorporate accessories such as hats, caps, sunglasses, statement jewelry(such as chokers or layered necklaces), backpacks, and crossbody bags to complete their outfits and add personal flair.

It's important to note that these descriptions are generalizations, and individual fashion choices can vary significantly, Teen fashion in America is highly diverse and influenced by a multitude of factors, allowing for a wide range of styles and expressions.

When two photographers from two different counties come together and join forces and work with teenagers, it can be a rewarding experience for both parties. Here are some ways photographers can effectively collaborate with teenagers.

Establish Trust and Create a Safe Space: Building a Trusting relationship when working with teenagers. Make them feel comfortable and respected by creating a safe and inclusive environment. Listen to their ideas, concerns, and suggestions, and ensure open communication throughout the collaboration. Encourage Self-Expression: Teenagers often have unique perspectives and ideas. Encourage them to express them. This empowers them to develop their artistic voice. and encourages their creativity to flourish. Provide Guidance and Mentorship: As a photographer, share your knowledge, skills and techniques with the teenagers. Offer guidance on composition, lighting, and post-processing, while also encouraging them to explore and experiment on their own. Mentorship can help them grow.

Collaborate on projects: Involve the teenagers in collaborative photo sessions. This could include working together on a specific theme or concept, planning and executing a photo shoot.

Explore Social Issues and Personal Stories: Photography can be a powerful medium for exploring social issues and personal stories. Encourage the teenagers to explore subjects that are meaningful to them, whether it's capturing a moments form their daily lives, addressing social issues they care about, or documenting their compelling stories through images.

Remember to be patient, supportive, and respectful of the teenagers' ideas and perspectives. By nurturing their passion for whatever they are into. Boost their confidence, and inspire them to continue pursuing their journey.

Memories by Tawnya Photography (Tawnya English) and Studio 34 Photography (Chrissianna Batt) along with Carrie Lero, Independent Beauty Consultant have done just that!  They have joined forces to help the Teens in their counties to explore and thrive to be strong and confident in themselves.
